Country: Comoros
About the flag
Comoros is correct. The crescent and four stars symbolize Islam and the archipelago’s four main islands—Grande Comore (Ngazidja), Mohéli (Mwali), Anjouan (Ndzuwani), and Mayotte (Maore). The stripes’ colors also stand for these islands, and the current design was adopted in 2002. This differs from the distractors: Mozambique’s flag famously features an AK‑47, Zambia has an eagle on an orange field, and Guinea‑Bissau uses a single black star with Pan‑African colors. Memory tip: “Four stars, four islands = Comoros.” The country sits in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Africa, with active volcano Mount Karthala on Grande Comore. Note that Mayotte is administered by France but is still represented on the flag—an easy hook to remember why there are four stars.
