About the flag

Equatorial Guinea is correct. Its flag features a coat of arms with a silk-cotton (ceiba) tree and six stars representing the mainland (Río Muni) plus the islands Bioko, Annobón, Corisco, Elobey Grande, and Elobey Chico, with the motto “Unidad, Paz, Justicia.” The blue triangle symbolizes the Atlantic/Gulf of Guinea. By contrast, Algeria’s flag has a crescent, Eswatini’s shows a shield and spears, and The Gambia’s is simple stripes. Memory tip: the emoji code “GQ” matches Equatorial Guinea’s ISO code. It’s also one of the few African countries where Spanish is an official language—its capital, Malabo, sits on Bioko Island, and a new capital, Ciudad de la Paz, is being developed on the mainland.
