About the flag

Hungary is correct: its red–white–green tricolor has been a national symbol since the 1848 revolution, rooted in medieval heraldry. The colors are commonly interpreted as red for strength and sacrifice, white for faith and freedom, and green for hope and the country’s fertile plains. To distinguish it, note that Hungary’s colors are horizontal; Italy’s are vertical, Bulgaria flips the order (white–green–red), Monaco is simply red over white, Liechtenstein has a crown on blue–red, and Moldova features a coat of arms on a vertical tricolor. Memory tip: “Hungry for goulash”—imagine layers of red paprika, white sour cream, and green parsley, matching Hungary’s red–white–green.
