About the flag

Kyrgyzstan is correct because its flag’s central symbol is a sun with 40 rays encircling a tunduk—the wooden crown of a traditional yurt—celebrating the unification of 40 Kyrgyz tribes in the epic of Manas. The red background represents bravery and valor. To remember it, think “Kyrgyzstan = yurt nation”: the yurt roof pattern inside the sun is uniquely Kyrgyz. This sets it apart from the options: Vietnam has a single yellow star on red; the Philippines shows a sun with eight rays and three stars in a white triangle; Afghanistan (pre-2021 flag) was a tricolor with a national emblem. Kyrgyzstan’s design reflects its nomadic heritage and mountainous homeland around Lake Issyk-Kul.
