About the flag

Lesotho’s flag features the Basotho hat (mokorotlo), a unique national symbol that makes it easy to identify. The blue–white–green stripes represent rain/sky, peace, and the land’s fertility. This design was adopted in 2006 to emphasize peace, replacing an older, more militaristic flag. Context to remember it: Lesotho is a high-altitude kingdom entirely surrounded by South Africa—often called the “Kingdom in the Sky.” The mokorotlo is a daily cultural icon there.
