About the flag
Libya is correct. The crescent and star reflect the country’s Islamic heritage, while the red, black, and green Pan-Arab colors represent Libya’s three historical regions. This design was the flag of the Kingdom of Libya (1951–1969) and was restored in 2011 after the revolution; from 1977 to 2011 Libya uniquely flew a plain green flag under Gaddafi. Memory tip: think “three regions, three stripes,” with the crescent and star shining in the “night” of the central black band. That distinctive combo sets it apart—unlike Tunisia’s red flag with a white disk, or South Africa’s multicolored Y, or Lesotho’s hat emblem.
