About the flag

Mali is correct because this is a simple vertical tricolor with no emblem—green, yellow, then red. By contrast, Algeria and Libya feature crescents and stars, and Eswatini’s flag has a prominent shield and spears. These are Pan‑African colors, symbolizing the land’s fertility (green), mineral wealth/sun (yellow), and the struggle for independence (red). Mali gained independence from France in 1960; its flag was finalized in 1961 after removing a black Kanaga figure to avoid depicting human forms. Memory tip: Three West African neighbors share the same colors—Guinea, Mali, and Senegal. Mali’s stripes run green–yellow–red with nothing in the center; Guinea is the reverse order, and Senegal adds a green star in the yellow.
