About the flag

Mexico is correct because the central eagle-and-serpent emblem comes from the Aztec legend of Tenochtitlán, a hallmark unique to Mexico’s flag. That emblem distinguishes it from lookalikes: Peru’s tricolor lacks this crest, Bolivia’s stripes are horizontal red–yellow–green, and the Bahamas uses aquamarine, black, and gold. Memory tip: Think “Mexi-coat of arms”—if you spot the eagle with a snake on a cactus, it’s Mexico. The colors traditionally stood for independence (green), religion (white), and union (red), later reinterpreted as hope, unity, and the blood of national heroes. This story-packed symbol makes Mexico’s flag one of the world’s most recognizable.
