About the flag

Tanzania is correct. Its flag’s distinctive diagonal black band edged in yellow separates green and blue fields—unlike Botswana’s horizontal black-white stripe, Rwanda’s flag with a sun, or Burundi’s white cross with red stars. The colors symbolize the nation: green for fertile land, blue for the Indian Ocean, black for the people, and yellow for mineral wealth. Adopted in 1964 after the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the design merges elements from both regions’ flags.
